19th Century Operating Theatre

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the rediscovery of the UK's only surviving 19th Century Operating Theatre, found in the roof space of St.Thomas's Church in London which in fact formed the South Wing of St.Thomas's Hospital. Placing the Theatre in the "Herb Garret" of the church provided separation from the ward, an entry for students and a an amount of sound proofing !!Swann-Morton have recently joined the "Friends of the Museum" to help fund the future development of the museum and its extraordinary collection of medical artefacts. Further information can be found at www.thegarret.org.uk/friends.htm.
